Meet The Smiths...

Murray and Michelle Smith decided to give away their home valued at over $1 million because they wanted to find a way to help provide much needed funds for the building of a church and community centre right in the heart of one of the most picturesque small towns in New Zealand  "Cambridge - the town of Trees and Champions".

So, are the Smiths IDIOTS  or are they INSPIRED!?

Well, whatever they are, they're passionate about making a positive difference in Cambridge and beyond... and that's why they gave away their MILLION DOLLAR house as a prize in a sales promotion which kick started this building fund, and raised over $1.2MILLION towards the construction! Congratulations to Warwick Hutchinson of Auckland who was the happy winner of their beautiful Lake Karapiro home.

Because they're so passionate about their community they're taking a piece of NZ to the world and want you to be a part of it. apieceofnz.co.nz is a not-for-profit brand that they have established to showcase to the world how fantastic New Zealand is and why New Zealand communities are a great place to live and work.  All profits from the sale of apieceofnz merchandise are channelled directly back into New Zealand and overseas community projects, starting with the church and community centre in Cambridge.

About the Winner...

Warwick very generously allowed Murray and Michelle and their children to stay rent free in the Million Dollar Home when he won it in early February, 2010.

He decided to bring it to the market as his family, friends and work are centred elsewhere. On July 18th 2010 it went to auction with Harcourts Cambridge, and sold successfully to a lovely family who had just moved to NZ from South Africa.

The Smith's moved out in early September... 3 days later and the Smith's were on their way to Africa with a team including five of their six children - to serve and help in an Orphanage in Pemba, Mozambique run by Rolland and Heidi Baker. They returned in October and are enjoying their work in the local community here in Cambridge.
